Courtesy visit on Premier of Sarawak
The Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Zohari Tun Openg was invited as the guest of honour to officiate the Opening Ceremony of the 77th Annual General Meeting of The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), which will be held at Pullman Hotel Kuching on 8th July 2023.
Dato Tan Jit Kee, the President of The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) led a group of delegates from ACCCIS paid a courtesy visit to the Premier of Sarawak on 9th January 2023 to handover the official invitation letter on behalf of ACCCIM.
“The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) founded on 2nd July 1921. It is the earliest national chamber of commerce to have had a complete regional representation across the country. Currently, the ACCCIM has 17 constituent members located throughout the 13 states and Federal Territories of Malaysia. As at to-date, it has over 100,000 direct and indirect memberships from all constituent members, including Malaysian Chinese-owned companies, individuals and trade guilds and associations.
Being one of the 17 constituent members of the ACCCIM, ACCCIS has been entrusted by the ACCCIM to organize ACCCIM’s National AGM in Kuching. An estimate of over 500 delegates throughout the country are expected to attend the said AGM”, disclosed by Dato Tan Jit Kee, who is also the Vice-President of ACCCIM.
Apart from extending the invitation to the Premier, a few issues of concerns gathered from ACCCIS’s members and the local business community were also raised during the meeting for deliberation of the Premier. Among the issues raised include the State Sales Tax imposed on the imported tyres, the collection of the channel maintenance fees by Kuching Port Authority pending the completion and handing over of the dredging project, the cement shortage encountered in Southern Region previously resulting in penalties imposed against the contractors and developers over the delay of projects, the delay in processing of the work permits of the foreign workers and the recent hike in quit rent implemented by the government. ACCCIS was pleased that the Premier was receptive to the issues raised and he has instructed the deputy premier, Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian to follow up with and resolve the matters with the respective departments.
“It was a fruitful meeting with Premier of Sarawak, every issue raised was given attention and positive feedback. ACCCIS will continue to work closely with the Sarawak government and agencies for the common good of our economy”, said Dato Tan.
Also present in the meeting was Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, the Deputy President of ACCCIS, Mr. Yek Siew Liong, the Vice-President of ACCCIS, Dato’ Dr. Ngu Piew Seng, the Vice-President, Mr. Kuek Eng Mong, the Secretary-General Dato Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, the Deputy Treasurer Mr. Ho Siew Hua, and the Chairman of Digital Economy Committee Mr. Rodger Chan Siong Boh.
