ACCCIS’s Vice President Mr. Kuek Eng Mong, Secretary-General Mr. Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, together with Chairman of Sarawak Tyre Dealers and Retreaders Association (STDRA) Mr. Lim King Hong, and Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Ngieng Hock Teck made a courtesy call to Puan Hajah Elean, Comptroller of SST yesterday to discuss on the issues pertaining to the implementation of State Sales Tax imposed on imported tyre including tyres attached onto the imported vehicles into Sarawak.
During the 2 hours’ dialogue, concerns on the collection and recovery of the SST in arrears chargeable for the whole of last year were raised and the stakeholders from the tyres industry have fervently appealed to the state government to waive the outstanding payment of the SST chargeable for last year as most businesses were adversely affected by the deteriorating economy impacted by the pandemic.
The delegates have also highlighted the need to fine tune the mechanism of enforcement of the State Sales Tax on imported tyre so to ensure fair competition in the industry. In addition, the representatives of the stakeholders were of the views that more publicity and briefings are required to disseminate information and create awareness among the tyres traders on the implementation of the SST on imported tyres.
ACCCIS appreciated the time and efforts of Puan Hajah Elean and her officers for holding such informative dialogue by providing an overview on the implementation process of the SST including registration, submission of return, assessment, payment and inspection.
ACCCIS is indeed grateful to be able to play an effective intermediary role and serve as a purposeful consultative platform between the government and the private sector in its quest to provide a conducive and friendly business environment for the entrepreneurs and investors.
