Engagement Session with Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM)
The President and committee members of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) had an engagement session with Malaysian Aviation Commission’s Director of Consumer Affairs Ms. Pushpalatha Subramaniam on 9th September 2016 to discuss on various flight issues and airlines services especially operated by MAS’s wholly owned subsidiary company MASwings.
In the beginning of the session, Ms. Pushpalatha introduced the background of MAVCOM and also deliberated the provisions of the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016. During the session, many issues were raised by the representatives of ACCCIS and the chamber members who were present in the engagement session.
A proposal paper was submitted by the ACCCIS at the end of the engagement session to reiterate the business community’s dissatisfaction with the air-transport services in the state of Sarawak. Issues outlined in the proposal were to request more international direct flights to be opened up; to review the excessive airfares; to reinstate certain international flight routes depart from Kuching; to relook domestic flight schedules; to provide better air connectivity; to minimize the frequency of delays by MASwings; to introduce new domestic routes as well as increase the flight frequency and many more so as to bolster the air-transport services, facilitate business travellers and spur the economic growth of the state.
